How it works

Plan

New starts a mission: an area, a corridor, an orbit, or waypoints you place. Finish the shape on the map and it is saved. Click a waypoint to edit its altitude, speed, gimbal, heading, and photo. Drag a waypoint to move it. Undo steps those changes back. Changing the mission's capture settings builds a new flight and drops those edits. Clear, in the editor, removes that mission's waypoints and leaves the mission. Delete, on the job in the list, removes the mission.

Pick the aircraft and camera, then set altitude or ground sample distance — each recomputes the other. Overlap sets the line and photo spacing from the camera's footprint. "Auto" line angle picks the direction with the least total flying for that shape.

Terrain

Ground height comes from USGS 3DEP via AWS Terrain Tiles (about 10 m resolution over Idaho, loaded straight into the browser). With terrain follow on, each leg is sampled every 20 m and waypoints are inserted only where the ground bends more than the tolerance, so a flat field adds nothing and a draw adds a few. Heights in the file are relative to the ground at the take-off point (the "H" marker — drag it to where you will actually launch). The AGL range in the result is what the aircraft will really be above the ground along the route; the Part 107 ceiling is 400 ft (121.9 m) above the surface.

Airspace and survey marks

The FAA layers are read live from the FAA's ArcGIS services: UAS Facility Map ceilings (where LAANC will grant), Class B/C/D and Class E surface areas, special use airspace, national security UAS flight restrictions, standing national-defense TFRs and 3 NM stadium rings. They are a planning aid, not an authorization — temporary TFRs and NOTAMs are not here; check tfr.faa.gov and your LAANC provider before flying. Survey marks are a local extract of the NGS datasheet index for the Idaho panhandle, Palouse and Spokane; each popup links to the datasheet.

Export

The download is a DJI WPML .kmz — a zip holding wpmz/template.kml and wpmz/waylines.wpml, which is what DJI calls a KML waypoint file.

Mini 3 Pro, Mini 5 Pro, Air 3 / 3S and Mavic 3 consumer identifiers are community-reported; the Mini 4 Pro and the enterprise aircraft are confirmed. If an import is refused, the Custom aircraft lets you set every identifier by hand. Fly the first mission of any new plan with your finger on the pause button.

What this does not do

It does not check obstacles, trees or wires — terrain is bare ground. It does not know about geofences, no-fly zones in the DJI database, or the current weather. Missions are saved to the lab cloud, which is what the missions page reads. The .kmz and the project file are downloads to this computer. Map tiles, terrain, and the FAA layers are requested as you pan.
